Fabián Aguinaco Bravo

He is recognized as one of the most prominent constitutional lawyers of his generation. He is an experienced litigator, award-winning teacher, prolific lecturer, and tireless human rights activist.

Over four decades of professional practice, he has led countless successful litigations in the federal Amparo courts, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. During his career, he has led some of the most emblematic constitutional litigations in the country, including the Bank Expropriation case; the 1982 decree of generalized exchange control; the defense of independent candidacies (Castañeda Case) and the purchase of advertising during electoral campaigns (Intellectuals Case). He has been at the forefront of the amparo trial for years.

Trajectory

Fabián Aguinaco Bravo has been a partner since 1980. His professional practice centers on the study and solution of constitutional problems, the handling of amparo proceedings and defense of human rights.

He is a seasoned litigator in federal amparo courts, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, based in San José, Costa Rica. The firm he heads was founded in 1972, focusing on the practice of law under a personal and dedicated relationship. As part of the firm's constitutional and amparo litigation practice, Aguinaco Abogados assists a broad base of individual and corporate clients.

Some of his clients are broadcasting companies, domestic and foreign banking and financial institutions, pharmaceutical laboratories, aviation companies, insurance companies, mining companies, food and beverage companies, educational institutions, sugar mills, public and private construction companies, real estate developers, clothing maquiladoras and hotel groups. In addition, the firm has handled cases involving antitrust, industrial property and expropriation of urban, rustic or tourist properties.

In addition, the firm has also been involved in the pro bono defense of multiple amparo proceedings for the benefit of minorities or vulnerable groups, social organizations, academics, social activists, and environmental groups.

He earned the Legal Innovation award 2016, conferred by the magazine El Mundo del Abogado magazine.

Guest professor in different master's degree and diploma programs related to Constitutional Procedural Law and Amparo Law, in numerous universities in the country.

Lecturer in national forums on Amparo Trial, Constitutional Law and Human Rights.

Author of numerous articles related to the amparo trial, published in specialized legal journals, related to constitutional law and human rights.
